After our time in Cusco and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, we headed to a city in Peru called Puno. This city is located on Lake Titicaca which is absolutely massive, half of it is actually located on the other side of the Bolivian border. It’s among the highest lakes in the world. During our stay there we decided to do a two day tour to a few of the islands in the lake (one of them actually being a floating island made of reeds), and stayed overnight on one island in a home stay. Our time in Puno was okay, but after spending time in Cusco, which we loved, we didn’t really have anything good to say about the city itself. We went fishing for canadian rainbow trout (brought to peru in the 50’s) but didn’t even have a nibble! To end Peru we spent 15 hours in the lima airport which was actually a really nice airport. Having finished Peru we’ve both had our fill of potatoes and are ready for some beach time!
Made entirely of reeds, as is the boat in the picture bellow which we got to go on.
Megan’s wearing traditional peruvian clothes, we were on our way to a dance.
Our cook and who we stayed with. I thought the stove below was pretty cool.
This is how the floating islands are made; dirt followed by reeds all tied together.
